Not a rumor but truth. I heard about this from the LVCVB last April and had only seen artist's renderings. Here is a link to Snopes that has some more photos.
Pretty amazing if you ask me! http://www.snopes.com/photos/archite...alk.asp#update Now sure that I would be able to muster the nerve to take that walk though--looking down 4,000'

To me it's just a gimmick to make money. I much rather take the mule ride down the sidewall of the Canyon. You can really see the Canyon then. I've been to the Canyon many times, and hope to go again, but I sincerely doubt I'll be visiting this site.
It reminds me of the "reality" shows on TV. They're "made for TV" reality. This is a manufactured tourist attraction. I don't know how they could build this on their sacred land and look their ancestors in the eye. |

Well, apparently the Hauapati (sp?) tribe is thisclose to broke and certainly they cannot compete with casinos in that area of the country. This is indeed a moneymaker for them.
On that note, it is sad that our own native americans are essentially bankrupt.

What's just as sad is that some Native American tribes are rich beyond all dreams, yet just like the "white eyes," they don't often help their fellow peoples. I guess that's become the American way in all our cultures.

I kind of have mixed feelings about this. Professionally I think it's great because my readers will be able to access it, where they can't really access the mule rides. Personally I think we should just leave well enough alone and let a nautral site remain natural and not build anything on it. I kind of hate the old "pave paradise and put a parking lot mentality". And it certainly is ugly!

There is no way on this earth that I would take a walk on it. But I'm sure there are the thrill seekers that probably will walk out on it.

Ned, The tribe out there tried to make a casino work but they were so far off the beaten path that hardly anyone came to it so it closed down. This is about what they percieve as their survival. A vegas money man fronted the cash for this attraction and time will tell as to how it does. Not sure how much they will charge for the privlege of walking out in this glass tube. We will see how it does.....it is quite an engineering feat. Certainly does not rank the same as a hike, paddle or mule ride into the canyon but I still think it will be something to behold.

I am angling to get an invite to the initial walk out with Buzz Aldrin!
I think it is entirely cool!
