This is an old poem I unearthed - from the earliest days of personal computers,
but it's still a good read, especially now that it seems so many magazines and
newspapers seem to have given up on proof readers....

I have a spelling checker,
It came with my PC
It plainly marks four my revue
Mistakes I cannot sea.
I've run this poem threw it,
I'm sure your pleas to no,
It's letter perfect in it's weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.

I just cringe when my 8th grader has me look over a paper and when I point out all the spelling mistakes he says, "Oh, the spell checker will get them..."

Some day that 8th grader just might "graduate college."

That one really burns me, especially when it's from a college graduate.

Kids have it so easy today, what with spell checker, calculators, computers (not typewriters).

There's no question that the typewriter has been greatly upgraded with computers!
Our High School typing class used manual typewriters. We had to learn not only how to erase the errors without leaving a mess, and then lining up the paper exactly right to make the corrections, we also had to do the same for the carbon paper.
Those fancy Electric typewriters were out there, but our school didn't have them.

I still cringe when I see people write THERE when they really mean THEIR.
