View Full Version : Colin Cotterill's mysteries

I'm currently making my way through the five mysteries (so far) of Colin Cotterill and am loving them. His protagonist is the 70-something Dr. Siri Paiboun, who by default has become the national coroner of Laos in the days when the Pathet Lao took over the country. Dr. Paiboon also finds that he has the ability to see the spirits of his "customers," who linger around until he's able to bring their murderers to light. The books offer a wonderfully amusing view of the clash between the prospective "workers' paradise" and an ancient culture that refuses to give up its beliefs and mores. I had never heard of these books until I read a rave review in a Bangkok newspaper and was quite happy to find the complete set in my local library. Highly recommended. (FYI, the first in the series is The Coroner's Lunch.)
