I used http://bloodcarefoundation.org.uk while travelling, it might be useful to someone else as it's related.

Yes I ran into that last year. But the one time I donated the Red Cross said it was fine. The second time (after the first and more removed from the time I was in Haiti) was not.

What was funny was that both times the registrar pulled out an atlas to try and find Haiti and started inthe Pacific

I'm not that adventurous an international traveler, my main international travel has been Caribbean cruises, but this is the first time in several years I've been eligible to donate because of various stops on those cruises.

Oh, and be aware the list changes. Just because you were okay in the past for visiting a place, you might be surprised to find it on the list the next time you show up. I know several people that discovered this after going on their yearly Mexican Riviera cruise and suddenly getting turned away, despite never having been in the past.

The CDC rules on who can and can't give blood are as strange and in some cases as ridiculous as the TSA's no fly list. For example, a man living in New York City who has had a different female sexual partner every year since 1977 is okay to give blood, but both partners of a monogamous homosexual male relationship are permanently excluded, even if neither has ever had sex with anyone else and both have tested negative for HIV and all STIs on numerous occasions. I know which ones I'd rather get blood from.
