I donot get to fly very often since receiving my head injury in 1987. To me, it is a privelege and I love getting to fly on a plane. I usally take my electric scooter with me when I fly and my cane. The airlines seats me in the front seat of coach because I cannot afford 1st class. After I board I ask the flight attendant if I can use the restroom in 1st class, because there is no way, I can walk all the way to the rear of the plane to use the restroom. I have noticed other people from coach following my example, and using the restroom in 1st class Do you have any suggestions for me? I don't want to make anyone mad, but all of these other people were not disabled.

I dislike certain nasty habits, nail biting is one of them, and I was on a flight once where I was traveling from back east to SFO and this young man was seated next to me and he just kept biting his nails while flipping through a magazine, and he would search his fingers for every stray nub of cuticle he could find to chew, and oh my Lord! I wanted to kill him. After complaining to the Stewardess, she didn't think it was that bad, and didn't follow through with my request to be moved to another seat. AAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

My peeves:

First class restroom being used by coach passengers, unless elderly or with a child.

The hummer, singer, air guitar player, or air drum player.

The "I knew it was too big" bag person. Why the hell didn't you just check the bag? And why must you give the flight attendant hell when they "must" take the bag anyway?

Plane pulling up to the gate, then ding! - all those people who immediately jump out of their seats and start pulling out all their baggage at once.

Obese people "spilling" over into 2 seats. Buy a 2nd seat or don't fly. Why should another person suffer?

The "can't get comfortable" person who is constantly moving around in their seat, or bouncing there leg, or tapping on the tray table.

Just my 2 cents...

I think one thing that was missed in this article is overhead baggage space. Please only bring what you are allowed and don't take up other passenger's space. I was on a recent flight from atlanta to honolulu where the flight crew looked the other way, as far as carry on size. Several passengers were forced to check carry ons while others got away with oversized bags. We are all trying to save money here because of all the excess fees airlines are throwing our way. The least the airlines could is make sure everyone plays by the same rules.

Great work, John, and well said. Could this be required reading before anyone boards a plane?

On your first point about obeying flight crew instructions, I am constantly amazed how passengers seem to become hearing impaired the second they board a plane!

My all time pet peeve - if you bring your kids on the plane - control them. I really don't think 2 year old sally is cute when she runs up and down the aisle screaming and throwing cookies. Or climbing on the back of the chair. Or throwing a temper tantrum. I've always traveled with lollypops and snacks. And although it may not work for your kids, you might want to find something that does prior to your boarding the flight.

That was a good write-up.

I think the flight attendants could pay more attention to those using their earphones too loud. Incredibly, almost everytime I take a greyhound bus the driver makes the same announcement to keep your earphones at a level where others cannot hear them.
