Anita, Tripso encourages taking care of problems on the spot. How should problems on cruises be escalated if the purser cannot or will not help? In other words, what is the "chain of command"?

Interesting that Carnival didn't address the unsympathetic staff who wouldn't move him until three days had passed.

Invoking the Vacation Guarantee would have probably inspired more hostility from the purser and pursing staff; they probably would have tried to find some way around it.

If I ever find myself in this situation I will invoke Carnival's Vacation Guarantee and disembark at the first non-US port of call and be flown home at Carnival's expense. I suspect that a passenger threatening to get off the ship is taken much more seriously because this guarantee is monitored by the head office. Nobody should have to sleep with raw sewage.

If I had walked into the stateroom the first time to find the carpet soaked and a foul odor, I would never had put my bags in or stayed even for a minute. How in the world could "everything be back to normal before they turned in for the night"? It was a nightmare anyway you look at it but Schulman should have refused the stateroom from the get go.

My thinking is, if they had an empty room, why didn't they just move them when it was requested on that second day? Then they could probably have kept their $680 and a lot more customer good will. Dumb.
