Good point Dave. I don't travel with either of my cats, and I am sympathetic to people with allergies, but the airlines don't ban perfume, for example. And let me tell you, I would sure rather be next to a little "stinky" pet than a large unwashed human. Or a screaming baby, or a child whose parents don't want to curb his or her natural enthusiasm...

"If dogs and cats belonged at 36,000 feet, they would have wings" - Couldn't the same be said for people?

Doggone airlines! 4 reasons pets shouldn’t fly...

Call it pet fees gone wild. To get an idea of how crazy these charges have become, consider what happened to Richard Grove, who was asked to pony up $300 to transport his 7-pound cat roundtrip on a recent Delta Air Lines flight. “That’s more than I...

Just because you haven't met people on the plane with allergies (or they haven't made themselves known) doesn't mean they aren't suffering. I for one have severe allergies (not to animals though), and instead of "sneezing" I break out in rashes. Furthermore, what about the smells? I have several dogs and not one can go without going outside for 14+ hours -- unlike people, they can't get up and use the facilities. Further, some animals just plain stink...Personally, I think it creates the potential for an extremely obnoxious environment.

It's been a long time since I had an animal on a domestic flight (almost eight years) but on that occasion the kitten flew free, but in the hold. The carrier (Qantas) has an excellent reputation for its treatment of animals. I think if I had to transport animals within the US, I'd use a pet courier service or drive them myself.

United now charges $250 EACH way to transport a small animal in the cabin. My Kitty is staying put unless I am going to be in one place for a minimum of two months.

Great revenue source but with all of the required medical tests, she costs far more to transport than a baby. Kitty doesn't cry much less ask for a meal. She sleeps for the entire trip. I don't mind paying for her to sit in the cabin. I do mind be gouged and she doesn't accumulate air miles. As for everyone with allergies -- some people do have them. But I have yet to meet them on a plane. Kitty travels without anyone near me sneezing.
