I just booked a cruise on Late June which leaves New York and goes to Cananda and returns to New York. From what I read, this is a closed loop cruise. So, do I need a passport or not? Some articles I read indicate no and some seem to suggest I need it. As to they people who say just get a passport..I can understand that mentality, but, If I don't plan on travelling Int'l in the next serveral years, I'd rather wait until I really need it. Anyway, if anyone knows 100% defininitively whether I need one or not, please post. BTW..Carnival cruise line stated I do NOT need it. Damian I am still confused! Just get a passport - the rest of the world needs them when they travel to the USA - get the passport and you will always have extra government issued photo ID in case you ever lose your drivers license you can use the passport to get the DL reissued immediately . .. Whats the big deal? With states issuing drivers licenses to illegal aliiens what good is that as a form of ID any longer? What is the big deal with Americans? What if it's the last port before home? You're obviously going to have to fly home. (or find a trambilla...I mean a bus - better start learning the language since you don't have that passport.
