Well, I figured it would only inflame passions and emotions if I said it more brutally honest. I decided I don’t want to contribute to that while being sort of frank about it still.

Truth is, none of us are obligated or required to do anything for anyone unless we agreed to one another for something. But…we human beings choose to help out anyway, although it depends when, where, etc.

That Hudson River landing could’ve been worse…

Any landing you walk away from (or swim in this case) is a good one. If I had been on that flight ino The Hudson I would be so pleased to be alive anything else would be bonus.
But I had a 20 year career as a military (RAF) navigator, so perhaps my viewpoint is a little different to others.

When did this country get populated by such pathetic stock. Why should the airline be responsible because of their passengers inability to deal with life.

The family feels they need more than that

I do sympathize with that family whose daughter was traumatized by what happened. But US Airways arguably made a good-faith effort in helping those affected, even if others think they’re not doing enough.

People think, feel or believe whatever they want. What people think, feel or believe isn’t always and/or necessarily true, especially if no law or some form of agreement states what to do for a given scenario.

Believing others should do more than what they’re ready and/or capable of doing, again if they especially made good-faith efforts doing something, potentially borders on entitlement thinking. Last I checked, many unnecessary problems have arisen from that.

From what I understand it’s US Airways insurer that is balking, not the airline itself. The airline does have the option of stepping up and covering what is not insured…

I am a frequent traveller, Platinum on Continental for 9-years. I think people are to quick to look for a payout from an airline. Yes they are traumatized, but as you pointed out, it is not the airlines fault. They should be gratefull they all lived.

If they need extra help, that is what personal insurance is for.

Accidents happen. If the the pax need therapy, they will need to go through health insurance or pay for it on their own. I don’t see why US Airways has any obligations here. The accident was just that, an accident, and in no way US Airways’ fault. This is what insurance exists for.

And yes, insurance for mental health sucks, and that isn’t US Airways’ fault either.

They have already gone far above and beyond the call of duty; yes, it was done for the purpose of positive PR rather than out of any legal obligation, but I don’t think anybody is in a position to be asking them for more.

If a taxi driver gets stuck in an unavoidable traffic jam and I end up late to my wedding, and the cabbie tells me not to worry about paying the fare, I don’t get to call him up later and ask for compensation on the catering bill, or for counseling with my now-angry wife.

Manhattanite Tess Sosa, who escaped the sinking plane with her husband and two small children, thought the airline was too focused on self-congratulations – and “they want to exonerate themselves as much as they can… They are happy they had such amazing results, and they applaud themselves, and then give us a small token?” she said. “That’s how I take it.”

She’s the most vocal about getting compensation in articles online. I wonder how she spent her FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS the airline compensated her for in an incident that was NOT the airline’s fault? Technically, her family received $15,000 dollars in compensation, while the airline spent almost ONE MILLION DOLLARS for the entire plane of passengers.

Counseling?…….THEY NEED COUNSELING FOR THEIR GREED.
