When you're concept testing your new product idea, it's essential to
find out if there are certain features respondents want to see. There
may be a feature that, if missing, will be a deal breaker on any sales.

Be wary when a 2nd driver drives the rental car without being authorised by the rental company and probably paid. Even if you have your own insurance most insurance companies will not cover a driver unless the car owner has given permission for the driver to drive. How do they do that? - on the rental agreement in exchange for money. It's a heads they win - tails the consumer loses situation.
Can we say buyer beware loud enough and often enough?

Married couples with different last names should be vigilant in looking for charges related to two drivers. Some rental car companies have attempted to charge this (my husband and I have different last names). Many states (Florida and Minnesota are two that I can think of) have laws that stipulate a spouse is automatically entitled to drive a car rented by the other spouse

So how do you actually avoid these fees by going through opaque sites? After all, some of them are taxes, and the municipalities couldn't care less where/how you booked the car.

As for the "cancellation fee" on prepaids, do I get this right: they charge you $5 if you don't cancel, as a fee to cover the cost for what?!

"The fee also covers part of the company’s cost of holding vehicles for prepaid reservations."

Excuse me? Since when do car rental companies hold cars for prepaid reservations? I flew in to Palm Springs a couple of years ago, having prepaid for a Hertz compact car to be used when I was there. When I got to the counter, I was told that there were no compact cars left, but that they could give me an SUV instead. Not feeling comfortable driving something as large as an SUV, I refused and ended up without a car. They certainly didn't hold my car for me!

My credit card company got my money back for me.
