#3 is one of the best bits of advice I ever got. Except for the difficulty of finding space for your carry-on, boarding last is always a good thing when flying solo.

I do have a problem with #4, albeit a small problem. If your bag is the last one loaded in the cargo pit, it'll be one of the first bags offloaded onto the bag cart and it'll be on the bottom of a pile while all the other bags are loaded around it. So instead of it being one of the first on the carousel, it'll likely be one of the last.

I might add:

* When walking the aisle back to the loo, don't use the back of the seats as handholds. It jostles the whole seat and disturbs the passengers. You don't need to steady yourself in the aisle unless the flight is bumpy, in which case you'd have been told to stay in your seat anyway.

* Do everything the FA tells you no matter how unreasonable. Not all FAs are as sweet, patient, and kind as our beloved James; some treat the authority of their position as an iron club, and the airline almost always takes the FAs side.

The advice regarding gate checking of carry-on baggage is very clever. Is this a service that is requested at the gate or once on the plane? In our travels, gate checking of baggage is only offered if the plane's overhead compartments are too small (like on commuter jets)or already full.

If it's reasonable buy the upgrade. I just returned from the Packer/Giant game. Whe didn't get home until 1230a, to bed 115am and I had to drive to Chicago 3 hours away to catch my flight that day. I paid $90 to upgrade and had plenty of room, a blanket, toasted nuts, a Bloody Mary, chocolate chip cookie and comfort. Well worth it even when the guy next to me snored.

I love suggestion #3. I have been practicing that innocent look which says how could I have made such a mistake. Thanks for the common sense article.
