This reminds me of the time a friend gave me a completed roll of film while we were at the Grand Canyon. I set it on some rocks to watch the sunset and forgot it. He ended up getting up at o-dark-thirty to take sunrise pictures the next day. Needless to say, I owed him big time for that stunt.

This column has been an eye-opener for me, although I carry numerous cards on my trips. I never even gave card corruption a thought. (Politics is another story...)

Keep the photography columns coming, Ned. We amateurs can always use some news and reviews.

I'm a heavy photographer myself, bringing two digital SLRs and a point/shoot with me on trips. When a card fails, there's lots of swearing that goes on. It happened in Egypt - a brand new 8gb card failed and I only lost 3 out of 400 images. I count myself lucky. I carry 6 CF cards of varying sizes.

Here's tips I've learned:
1) The more the merrier. Cards are cheap enough that you should consider stocking up on the 1gb-2gb models and treat those as rolls of film.
2) Test out your gear before you leave the house.

Ned's right: Don't go cheap when it comes to memory. I love Sandisk Extreme III/Extreme IV cards. Lexar, Kingston and Sandisk are all pretty reputable. Sandisk Extreme III cards come with the RescuePro software.

I, for one, heavily enjoy reading your columns on photography (as well as your forum posts), even if some of it is above my knowledge.

I say keep it up.
